The Shape of Things to Come

My work comes about through the process of drawing. The forms emerge through my unconscious. Any association with the existing world is entirely accidental. They begin as controlled “doodles” and are transformed through the process of modelling, carving and painting into fully evolved sculptures of great imaginative intensity. My life's work has been devoted to the Surrealist ideal and finds it's most confident expression in this current series of work.

I have tapped into a rich new imaginative vein. I have rediscovered colour and paint onto the sculptural forms more like a painter. I use oil paint because I love the smell, the texture, the sensuousness and the truthfulness of the paint that allows me to glaze, repaint and overpaint, such that I have complete control in the matching of the colour to the form.

Having devoted the last 5 years in the making of relief sculptures for the wall, in 2010 I began to explore the possibilities of the 3rd dimension. Mea Culpa was the first.

I believe that I am making the best work of my life Now.
